Q: Messages missing

I restarted my iphone 5s after having issues getting my texts to send. When I turned it back on, I only had 4 conversation threads when I used to have way more. My iPhone says I still have 6GB of saved messages, so I'm not sure why they aren't showing up. Any ideas?

Well saying why they are gone, after the fact is not easy.
But
Both iCloud and iTunes backups save the messages.
