Transferring Podcasts from device to PC/iTunes

Hi folks,

I have a large backlog of two years worth of Archer's Omnibus podcasts on my iPod. What is the best way to transfer them from my device back to my PC/iTunes? The Podcasts are no longer available on the store (they only keep up the last 4 episodes on the store) and I have never downloaded any to my iTunes direct from the store.

Am I right in thinking that if I sync my iPod with iTunes, it will delete the podcasts from my device? Is there an obvious Apple way I have always missed? Do I need to look at 3rd Party options? Are there even any?
