My Ipod 5th gen is a paperweight now.

I wanted to restart my ipod yesterday. So I went into Genral>Reset>Erase all content and settings. Then when in the process it froze. I just went to bed and when I woke up the bar hadn't moved. Then I tried turning it back on and it just froze at the apple logo. Then I put it into recovery mode and Itunes said it couldn't download the software error 39 and terminated the reset. But now Itunes won't even recognize that my Ipod is plugged in even when I switched cables and the port I was using. I don't know what to do except sit and have it as a paperweight
