my early 2008 macbook rejects dvd-r disks
when i insert a dvd-r disk to write it my mac ejects it

You should have a superdrive that can burn DVD-R but it is worth checking…
Apple menu, hold the 'alt' key > select 'System information'. It may be called System Profiler on older OS's.
What is listed under disk burning?
If all looks correct the discs may be the issue, do you have an others to try? Do burned DVD-R discs read?
