Your printer is not listed here > Printer and scanner software available for download for your Mac - Apple Support

You can select Yosemite from the pop up menu but the download available is for v10.9 Mavericks > Phaser 6000 Drivers & Downloads

You can contact Xerox > Contact Us

Sometimes, restarting the Mac can help with updating the Printer Software list to show a newly installed driver.

If the restart fails to list the Xerox, then you may be able to add the printer by selecting Other in the Use menu and then browsing to Library > Printers > PPDs > Contents > Resources. If the driver installed worked then a supporting PPD for the Phaser 6000 should be in this folder. If it is then select it, press OK and then Add to complete the printer creation.

Then there could be an issue with the driver installer not copying the PPD to the correct location. Few people recently had the same issue with a Dell installer. Do you have a link to the Xerox driver so I can test?

Thanks for the link. This Xerox driver does have the same issue as the Dell, in that 10.10.4 is blocking the installation of the two PPD files.

So Xerox should really resolve this issue the install.log shows its an issue with permissions for the installer.

In the meantime, I've extracted the Phaser6000.PPD and placed it here for you. Copy this file to /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources (you will have to authenticate to allow the copy). Now when you go to add the printer the "Xerox Phaser 6000 v2.5" should be in your Printer Software list. Select it, press OK and then Add to complete the printer creation. Hopefully this is the only file that didn't get copied by the Xerox installer and you should now be able to print.

I gave some geeky instructions on the Dell issue here and a couple of posts below that.

More specifically, in the case of the Xerox drivers in this thread, after the user mounts the disk image from Xerox, the long, long Terminal command would be :

    mkdir ~/inflate; cd ~/inflate; xar -xf /Volumes/6010\ 6000\ Print\ Installer/6010\ 6000\ Installer.pkg; /System/Library/CoreServices/Applications/Archive\ Utility.app/Contents/MacOS/Archive\ Utility  ~/inflate/installationfiles.pkg/Payload; cp -R ~/inflate/installationfiles.pkg/Library/Printers/PPDs PPDs

Hopefully there will be enough in these posts (Dell and Xerox) that we can help others without PAHU having to keep an infinite number of PPDs on a server

Thanks for your help folksong. I tried to modify your script for the Dell to work with the Xerox driver but still couldn't get it to work - I would get an error when the call was made to use the Archive Utility stating "No such file or directory". So that's why I reverted to supplying the PPD again.

Looking at what you have written I did re-write the command correctly. As a test I copied your command above but got the same error when it gets to opening the Archive Utility. The inflate folder is created and the installationfiles.pkg is present inside the folder. Since it worked for the OP the command is obviously correct. Any idea why I would be getting the error?

And we all thank you PAHU for all your tireless work helping others.

Apple moved the Archive Utility for Yosemite.  In Mavericks it is at:

    /System/Library/CoreServices/Archive\ Utility.app/Contents/MacOS/Archive\ Utility

    In Yosemite, it is at:

    /System/Library/CoreServices/Applications/Archive\ Utility.app/Contents/MacOS/Archive\ Utility

They moved it to a different directory and added an .app extension on the bundle.

Yep. That's what I'm using. Like I said, I copied your command but still get the error about "No such file or directory".

Anyway, not to worry. The main thing is that it worked for the OP. Thanks again for your help with this. My email approach wasn't ideal but explaining how to extract the file without your command felt like it would be too much for some users.
