How do I fix the "insert valid sim" pop up even tho I can see that the sim is active. I can see the 3G showing behind it

Have you just purchased the iPhone
Yes I just got the iphone 4
Then it sounds as if it is locked to a Carrier .
Only that Carrier can remove their Network lock
and to answer your next question ask the person you purchased from they will or should know the Carrier it was used with
