Authorized Apple Store Asked for iCloud Password?

Sorry if this isn't the place for this, I don't know where is.

I went in to an authorized Apple repair store two days ago. They asked me to write down the email address and password of the iCloud account on the device. They let me turn it off right there instead, but I thought it's kind of weird that they ask for that instead of just make sure it's off when they get it. Is this a normal practice? Anyone know?

II've always gone to official Apple stores and have only been asked to turn off find my iPhone. I have never been asked for any password, other then the passcode to unlock the device if I had forgotten to remove it first. What was the problem you were there for though? Them asking may have been related, but I have never been asked for my password before.
