My agency would like to use iBooks Author to create an iBook for a client to use in training employees. We will charge the client for our service. But does Apple need to get paid anything?

My agency would like to use iBooks Author to create an iBook for a client to use in training employees or for field sales reps to use in selling. We will charge the client for our services. But does Apple need to get paid anything, in this instance?

If the ebook is to be distributed for free, you do not have to upload it to the iBookstore, and thus there's no fee to pay to Apple. See more details here: iBooks Author: Publishing and distribution FAQ - Apple Support

Thank you. This is pretty much what I thought. But there was some confusion here and I wanted to clarify. As I understand it, Apple only requires a fee when an iBook (created with iBooks Author) is distributed through the iBookstore for a fee. And you can't distribute an iBook (created with iBooks Author) anywhere else for a fee. Although you can distribute it anywhere for free. It was argued that somehow Apple required a fee, since we would be charging the client a fee for our creative services in creating the iBook. But that's a different thing. Ultimately, the iBook would be distributed to the client's employees for free. There seems to be some gray area here, depending on how you look at it. But I've seen that other companies are utilizing iBooks Author to create business tools and that Apple even promotes it...https://www.apple.com/ipad/business/books-at-work/
