No, you cannot bypass the passcode security to get access, even to make a backup.

The only way to remove the passcode if forgotten involves erasing the contents, which you do not want to do.

If you have proof of ownership, original receipt for example, you might take it to an Apple store genius bar and see if they have a way of making a backup for you.

IF you plug it into the computer you may be able to import the photos. However, normally the device must be unlocked first. YYou should still be able to restore to factory settings though.

If you previously synced to a computer you can connect the iPod to that computer and make a backup if not disabled connect to iTunes and you forgot the screen-lock passcode.
