Audio still playing on MacBook Pro?

I have a Macbook Pro late 2013 15" model running the latest version of Yosemite and I'm wondering if what I have is a problem or it's completely normal. Whenever I have tabs open on my browser (whether using Chrome or Safari), the audio from annoying ads and/or YouTube windows still play even when my MacBook is sleep or standby mode. It's really frightening and embarrassing when you have your laptop on standby in the library or even at home and all of a sudden some random sound starts playing from an open tab in the browser. Is this completely normal or is there a setting that I missed? (because I checked everywhere.)

yes, I'm afraid so. in Chrome, anyways, they are planning to put a feature in to tell you exactly which tabs are playing sound and how to shut them off. in safari, I don't know. I wish they would, though. when you hear an ad playing and you can't figure out where it's coming from---that's annoying for sure
