Q: Less than 500 cycle on battery and it will not charge at all

Please make an appointment and take it in for service. If the battery is defective they should replace it for you.

That is incorrect.  If you read the Apple advertising, the operative words are UP TO 1000 CYCLES, not 'will last to 1000 cycles'.  Battery life to a large extent is determined how it has been used/abused as well as age.  Four years of use is not necessarily too early for a replacement.

Yes, if the battery is defective. Apple warrants that the battery should last at least to 80% of it's expected life. A battery with an expected life of 1000 cycles should not fail with only 486 cycles accumulated.

Up to 1000 cycles includes 486 cycles. Just take it in.

A few, not many exceed 1000 cycles and of those, some do so by a lot (1500+).  They are a very small minority.

Most batteries will not reach the 1000 cycle mark before they have to be replaced.  Battery life is determined by age, the way it has be used (correctly or incorrectly) and by luck of the draw in manufacturing.  A battery is the most volatile and inconsistent part in a MBP and each one must be addressed on a individual basis.  Open System Information>power and post this from your MBP.

my battery has failed after only 176 cycles. It is also a MacBook Pro early 2011, 13".

DId they replace the battery at no charge?
