Auto-addressing emails

MAC OSX 10.9.5

This may be an inappropriate place to ask a question about gmail on mac products, but...

Is there a way to delete old email address from the auto-address function? even after deleting from contacts, old addresses pop up each time I address an email.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5), iTunes 12.1.2.27

Assuming this is Mail.app on OS X that's configured to use gmail and not some other tool that's been installed here, then start a new mail message from within Mail.app, click on the To: field, start typing the email address that you want to remove from the list of previous recipients, select it into the To: field, then click on the down arrow that's visible at the end of the entry for the address in the To: field and select Remove From Previous Recipients from the popup. Repeat for other email addresses as necessary.
