iPhone 5 won't hang up after a phone call

My iPhone 5 has always been difficult to hang up after a call. In fact, it's difficult to keep the keypad visible at anytime. The screen often goes black instead, until I press the home button. My phone also likes to make pocket calls to others in my contacts list after I hang up the phone. Anyone else experience this?
