My mouse is not recognized on start up

I have a new MacBook Pro with built-in optical SuperDrive. When I wake up my computer or start it cold, my mouse is not recognized. I must unplug the mouse and then plug it back in, then it works perfectly until the next time my MacBook Pro goes to sleep.

The same mouse works perfectly on my Mac Pro.

Suggestions welcome.

Try the other USB port.

I tried that before posting. I've used this mouse without difficulty on a couple other Macs and Windows machines. Once I unplug the mouse, and plug it back in it will work perfectly until the computer goes to sleep and is turned off.
