Is there a list of legitimate of ipad processes somewhere? I have some weird stuff showing up on my IPad and we already have one zombie at the repair shop.

is there a list of legitimate processes that I can check the processes on my iPad against? I have things like MobileGestaltHel and Duet showing up and things are acting weird and I know just enough to dig up an app, look at the processes and say some of these don't sound right. No, my IPad has never been jail broken, I'm a 50 year old mom who's never done anything more exotic on this iPad than play Plants vs Zombies. I haven't even upgraded to the new plants vs zombies, I just read my iBooks and look up recipes. Today I reset the pad completely to try to get the gremlins out, lost my recipes, but the weird processes are still here.

Raggedy looking black and white flashing, trouble with the App Store loading, it won't load at all, just shows me a blank page for featured, takes forever to load, everything takes forever to load even though we have the super speedy option from Comcast and used to get everything double fast. Lots of apps are moving very slowly from one screen to the next. I do software update whenever the option is offered, and update my apps religiously. One thing that has been suggested to me is that a pop up masquerading as an update for a known software package is probably how the desktop was infected.

There are few diagnostic procedures for the iPad.

Stop all apps. ( Double tap home button. Drag up. ) Look at what process are running. This would be the base line. See what processes start with each app.

Backup and restore.

look at logs.

visit apple store.

I'd see if you can find the log files. Perhaps you can find what app started the process. Should be identifiable by full path.

With ios, you need to attach you iDevice to a computer to read the logs. See:

Re-boot ipad.

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears, then drag the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears. page 128 iPad user manual.

force power down if the above give you trouble.

Hold down both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button. Ten seconds or more. Hold until the Apple logo appears.

Restore to factory settings by loading the latest version of ios that your machine will support:

Do a full backup of your device. Twice is best -- cloud and computer.

"You can put your iOS device into recovery mode, then restore it using iTunes.:

At last resort you could consider DFU (Device Firmware Update). This could void your warranty.

If the update notification is not like what you used to see from the App Store, then I think you found the culprit.
