iPad TV out ongoing issue

I have been trying to Google and read as much as possible on the ongoing issue with Apple disabling TV out in ios 8. I just wanted to see if there was a final solution on the horizon as the last advice I could see was 2014.

I have an iPad 2 which I stupidly (I now realise) recently updated to ios 8. Now I am trying to connect it to my TV via composite cables and as a lot of people have reported previously I can get audio but no video. I have tried previous suggestions of resetting all settings, starting the video before connecting the cables, trying different apps that promise TV out capabilities, video via You Tube. No joy.

Any chance there is now a solution or hope that apple will let go on their money grabbing grip on the iPad TV out ability??
