certificate chain not trusted

We are in the process of deploying 802.1x authenticated wireless for our mobile devices. Issue we are having is despite uploading our enterprise CA cert to our 'idevices' during login we are prompted to trust the authenticators cert despite being signed by our enterprise CA. Some searching seems to suggest this is an Apple issue (example https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/11796346/ise-certificate-chain-not-tr usted-wlan-clients) as the issue can also happen for external trusted CA's where the cert is signed by an intermediate CA.

Is this issue being looked at as it seems to be going on for several years....
