Stop cnn Breaking News text alerts!

Hi - I started getting CNN Breaking News Text Alerts last week. They come as SMS from 1 (410) 100-001, -002, -003, incrementing one each time. So I can't block them by number. I've tried replying STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE, Quit. Does nothing. I've tried unsubscribing via the cnn webpage, but it only asks for email. I do not have the CNN app installed on my phone nor any notification in my phone settings for CNN. In a shocker, Customer service at CNN is absolutely worthless. I am an ATT customer. Help!

Jeremy,

I had the same unsolicited CNN

alerts issue. What I did to resolve it was install the free NEWS app after which I did the following:

• Go to iPhone settings

• Click on Notifications

• Scroll down for the News app that was

just installed

• Ensure that the notification is off, i.e. No

green circle indicator.

This procedure eliminated the CNN alerts that I previously received.

Hi Christine -

thanks for the reply. I do not recall registering my email at CNN. When I try to confirm this now, for example, attempting to find the location to sign in by finding on this page, http://www.cnn.com/help/preferences.html#1e I find their website is jacked in that it routes me to -

http://www.cnn.com/specials/profiles???? Do you know the URL for the sign-on?

I really appreciate your help. Jeremy

did you search the websites from Google or navigate once you arrived at CNN . com? I tried looking but could not find anything. I did a search on CNN here. Maybe this will help. I know how you feel. I get Flash Flood warnings that I know I did not register for. good luck. Maybe this link will help?

I don't remember. I created my CNN.com account more than 10 years ago; perhaps I gave my phone number then. In any event, since then and until two weeks ago, I received breaking news alerts ONLY via email. Then without warning I stopped receiving alerts via email and started receiving them via text. The text messages are truncated and any unsubscribe instructions are cut off. CNN's website is basically useless on this point.

I agree with this - it was forever ago when I very probably did sign up for the alerts. And, I have a very hazy memory that they were signed up with an email address: some crazy concatenation of phone carrier and mobile number, like 'mycellnumber@attmobileme.com'. But if that's true, I cannot recall what the suffix should be. For me, I never received the emails (or at least haven't for years). I just started receiving the text messages last week.

thanks to both of you in your replies. I am going to call ATT today and see if they can jar my memory on what the suffix might have been. CNN must have changed something a week ago to resurrect these alerts - I just wish we could find the right person/department to tell me what they did within the blackbox that is CNN. And yes - my last Breaking News alert from CNN was yesterday on Tom Brady.
