Magic mouse jumps slides unexpectedly and often

When working in an that works with slides (PPT or PDF), the pages will suddenly jump around. I have touched the mouse, but have not intentionally wanted the page to do this. It's super-annoying for me the user and super-annoying for the viewers when I am giving presentations.

A discussion from 2010 suggested turning off the "Scrolling with momentum" feature, but that feature isn't in my system prefs. (OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 - MacBook Pro, 2014).

Clearly not a new problem. Also not an MS Office problem since it happens consistently in Adobe, as well.

Suggestions?
