google photos upload quality looks terrible ?

i am using google photos app on my iphone6 to upload photos to their google cloud.

i believe i only have 1 setting option (quality = high or max... I choose high)

im comparing the image that google uploaded to the image that photo stream uploaded (ie on my mac) and the quality of the google image is terrible! the colors are all wrong, it is very harsh, etc.

has anyone else experienced this? am i missing something?
