If I use iCloud to store photos from iPod touch, can I still use iPhoto on the computer

if I choose iCloud to store photos from my 6th generation iPod touch, will I have to use iCloud (Photos app) on my Mac instead of iPhoto (which I've used for years and prefer)?

Thanks for a great question about using the iCloud Photo Library and whether you can continue to use iPhoto on your Mac instead of switching to the Photos app.

In order to use the iCloud Photo Library on your Mac you will need to view pictures either with the Photos app or the iCloud.com Photos app. See this article for reference - iCloud Photo Library FAQ. The iCloud Photo Library does not work with iPhoto.
