My ipad sscreen got locked out because of a mendant virus in which they are looking for money to open it. I just erased the history and it seems to be fine. is this indeed a virus?

UUnless you have jail broken your iPad, the device cannot get a virus. If you haven't jail broken, you are fine. It was a scam, that's all.
