My iPhone 4 is disabled and I can't get into it?

I got an iPhone 4 off of my friend. She gave it to me because they set it into disable mode and cannot fix it as they do not have access to the original computer, nor iTunes account. It doesn't seem to want to go into recovery mode either. This is my first iPhone and I was up all night doing research and this my last resort. I have tried many things I found on the internet, though none so far have worked.

iPhone 4, iOS 7

Bummer.

At least it was free.

If you can't get it into recovery or DFU mode, you could always make an appointment at the genius bar and have it looked at. Worst case is they tell you it will cost $149 to get it replaced.
