It's highly unlikely that it will ever work again, and even if it does manage to dry out enough to function to some degree, it's only a matter of time until it fails completely.
Make an appointment at the genius bar and get it replaced.
Do not charge or turn or until dry.
To dry place the iPod in a sealed container with uncooked rice for a week and periodically change the rice.
If still problem
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours. Price depends upon model and capacity

He actually tried to turn it on already. We had it in a container of rice for two weeks and it still wont work. I guess I will have to take to the apple store.
Yep. It's cooked. If 2 weeks didn't do it, nothing will.
