Mail Disappeared

My mail has disappeared from my ipad.The icon is there , and the number of messages I have received .When I open it, nothing is there except two collums.The smaller one on the left with a small magnifying (search )The top right has the normal mail icons.. All of my mail setting are correct. Nothing was changed when this happened. I was trying to send pictures. I have started and restarted and at a loss. version 8.4 Oh when I mail , it automatically goes black and returns to home screen within 30 seconds.
