Mac book pro 15 late 2011 won't start up

My Mac was working fine, the next morning I opened the lid and did not wake up. I tried restarting but all I see is the sleep light on and the stsrt up sound doesn't get to the apple chime. There is nothing on the display. I want to call up but does anyone know if they charge you even if they can't help you? I feel like I need to bring it to a store. I hope it will not lose my files... any ideas why this has happened?
