Im using a late 2013 Mac Pro (see specs below) with a 4TB thunderbolt external HDD and Im still getting a fair amount of Lag in FCPX. Im not optimizing media but its only H.264 from a BlackMagic ProRecorder and the original files are only 3.5GB at the most, so its not like I'm working with insane files. Any Ideas on how I can speed things up?

Try some housekeeping. Start up in Safe Mode, log in and when that has finished, re-start. I'm right is assuming that your libraries are on the Tb drive?
