First off- not a skilled user. Emailed myself a video from my iphone and it comes up on a screen with a 'Q' and says loading. For about 2 seconds. Then there's a question mark in the Q and nothing happens.

Well, first, what is the attachment limit from your carrier? All ISPs have limits - here are iClouds:

Unless a movie is only a few seconds and/or not in HD, the size is generally large, so that might be one of the problems.
