I "cleared" my macbook, thinking it would start as a clean slate, back to factory settings but still says i need to free up space on my hard disc....how do i do that?!?!

I "cleared" my macbook, thinking it would start as a clean slate, back to factory settings but still says i need to free up space on my hard disc....how do i do that?!?!

I want to free up space on my hard disc and i dont know how....

MacBook Air (11-inch Late 2010), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

If you went through the erase and install process as shown in the link below, there will be nothing on your Mac except for the operating system. Please review the erase and install process below and let me know what exact error message you are receiving.

OS X Yosemite: Erase and reinstall OS X
