iTunes remember search when switching between playlists

iTunes used to remember what you had searched for when switching between playlists. For example, if I was in my music Library and I searched for "Snow Patrol" it would display all matching songs. Then, if I switched to a playlist the search would still be active and it would display all matching items in the playlist.

It would only change when I either pressed the 'X' to cancel the search or changed the search term.

Now when I switch playlists the search is wiped and it displays all items in the playlist meaning I have to type the search again.

Is this just a feature Apple have done away with or am I missing something?

I am using the latest iTunes software on a Mac that has the latest software.

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.4, Watch with latest software
