Help! I cannot apply an image from a usb drive

I have a new macbook pro.

We apply images to our company MacBooks by a usb drive.

On this occasion I am unable to apply the image on a brand new macbook (pre bundled 10.10.3) the usual way via disc utlity.

There is no error. It "appears" to apply and takes a few minutes. When it "completes" i reboot and a white circle with a line appears on the middle of the screen.

I have tried:

reformatting the drive both on the macbook and usb pen drive.

re copied the dmg image to the usb pen drive

downloaded os x from recovery over the internet and then tried reapplying the dmg as above

Can anyone offer help?

thanks

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

It looks like the software version in your disc image may predate this machine.

As a rule, newer macs can't boot older versions of the OS.

You should probably redo the image using 10.10.4, as even if it is 10.10.3 on both the version on the new mac may have specific machine drivers not present in the public version, but those should be incorporated in 10.10.4.
