Opening Logic 8 session in Logic Pro x

How do I open a Logic 8 session in Logic Pro X with the edited instruments and effects from the original session? When I open a session from logic 8 now in logic X, the session opens with all it's files but the instruments & effects that I edited in logic 8 default back to their original settings in logic X (changing the entire sound of the song). Thanks for any assistance - greatly appreciated.
