How do I sign out of iCloud but keep the contacts on my iPhone

Help!

I have spent hours trying to get out of the **** that is iCloud.

If I try to 'Sign out' it gives me a prompt saying

'If you sign out of your account, all Documents & Data stored in iCloud will be removed from this iPhone'

I want to KEEP everything on my iPhone as it is, ESPECIALLY my contacts, so I don't dare to go ahead.

How do I sign out of iCloud but keep the contacts on my iPhone?

(I don't mind deleting my iCloud account completely as long as it doesn't delete what's in my phone.)

Please help!
