Q: Bootcamp and windows 10 - have you upgraded?

Windows 10 is out today.  I cannot find a thread on this yet . . . now that Windows 10 is out, has anyone using bootcamp tried the upgrade?  If so, results or advice?

My Windows is still waiting for the download.

I followed the instructions for this workaround, and it didn't work. It installed drivers for Radeon R9 200, but my Mac Pro has FirePro D300 video cards.

There is an option in the control panel to roll back to 8.1, which I did, since my keyboard lost full functionality and the display drivers don't work. The roll back only took about 20 minutes and was totally painless. I guess i can suffer Windows 8 for a little while longer until there is an update from Apple.

I got around 15 fps lower performance in The Witcher when I disabled crossfire. It is really bad optimized against AMD, and me running modded drivers probably don't help either. But thanks for the tips, I know it to work in a lot of other games

It's the same for me too, but it's not a great deal. The drivers works anyways. Even the official bootcamp drivers on some occasions showed up under another name. The cards in the Mac Pro also are almost identical to some other AMD cards, so the same drivers should work. Just use the drivers

For those of you who either can't get the drivers to work, or don't wanna mod them themselves, I have uploaded all my working modded drivers and a "readme" file. Give it a try. I just uploaded all my working modded drivers to this folder, if anyone wanna download:  https://mega.nz/#F!rE8T0BCT!e98m7Ww6mat3LedjR0aGJw

How did you do that? Im trying to reinstall but when I restart the computer when Windows Update prompts me, Windows forgets about the update after booting again   , I already changed the bootcamp settings so Windows is the main OS so i dont even have to press the option key to choose windows from the boot screen.

are you able to modify audio drivers? i have a cirrus logic cs4206a (ab 11) and its only partially compatible. i have strange audio output where most audio is quiet but other parts is extortionately loud. i have my volume all the way to max and i can still barely hear some parts of what im listening to, this was never a problem when i was on windows 8, i barely had my sound up past 1/4 of the way!!

i cant find a middle ground where i can hear some audio but not be deafened by the loud parts. a good example is when im watching a game play through and the commentator is barely audible then suddenly hes super loud or league of legends, music and announcer is quiet but my champion is too loud and some sound effects are louder than others.

if i right click my speakers in play back devices and go to properties, the enhancements tab is completely missing. normally speaker fill would fix this issue but i cant enable it if its no longer there. ive been told its because the driver isnt yet compatible with windows 10 and im not keen on waiting ages for apple to update it

I Messed with drivers so much to wouldn't boot LOL

i then tried to install it again and I could only get as far as the login, soon as it enters windows it BSOD

i then reverted to windows 8.1 same again soon as I run the boot amp driver pack boom can't login...

so I flattened my 5k and will attempt it again once Apple release something ....in the meantime I've dusted off the gaming rig, thrown 10 on and off I sail in world of warships....

Installed it on my recently bought iMac 5K so a 2015 model, which I believe has the AMD R9 200 Card in it so will definitely try that modded driver workaround thanks. My install was from an ISO from Windows Insider off of a USB flash drive. It all installed perfectly well as an upgrade from Windows 7, however upon starting up in Windows 10 I did discover a few issues, mostly to do with the boot camp drivers, which will mention below:

    1. Fn + other special keys didn't work -  This was the case when I first installed Windows 7 on it too, turns out the reason is to do with the latest bootcamp drivers aren't updated to support the new 5K iMacs so well, so after some research and questions on here I found the solution is to download an earlier version of boot camp drivers and rerun the keyboard installer/setup.
    2. The AMD drivers were replaced by a basic Microsoft/Windows 10 one - This was not good at all as it gave very poor/limited performance. To fix I immediately located the AMD install package from the USB drive I used with BCA and this replaced the driver with the AMD ones (albeit outdated ones).
    3. Sound feedback/distortion from speakers - I figured this was because of one of the new features of Windows 10 and the built-in microphone in most iMacs, which does make it great to talk to Cortana However unless told not to Windows 10 will enable the microphone to always be on and listening, which is fine but it seemed the output device setting for the microphone caused a conflict with the other sound device for normal playback. Fixed simply by changing the playback/output source for the microphone under properties. Still works perfectly fine.
