Watch keeps switching to Silent Mode

I've noticed that my Apple Watch keeps switching itself to Silent Mode. Is this a known bug?

I have it set to mirror the Do Not Disturb settings on my iPhone but my Watch appears not to switch back (if indeed that's what's turning it onto Silent Mode in the first place).

See whether this helps:

On your iPhone, in the Apple Watch app, go to: My Watch > Sounds & Haptics - if it is currently enabled, uncheck / deselect Cover to Mute.

With Cover to Mute enabled, when an alert is received, covering the display (eg with your palm) for at least 3 seconds will mute the watch. A tap will confirm that mute has been enabled and the setting must be manually disabled (eg on your watch via Glances > Settings Glance or via Settings from the Home Screen).

It is possible that this feature is being accidentally triggered by, for example, folded arms covering the watch face at the time of receiving an alert.

Mine does this ALL the time. And no, it's not because cover to mute is ON, it just does it all the time. I would receive a notification on my iPhone (mirrored) but wouldn't make a sound or tap on my Watch. I rely on this most of the time, after a while, I would see a lot of messages on my lockscreen but the watch didn't notify me. Had this problem since WatchOS2.

SO every time I wipe my watch face .. I am muting it !! Aha !

Hi

No, that is not correct - unless you only wipe your watch face upon receiving an alert and you only do so in a certain way.

With Cover to Mute enabled, Silent Mode is only turned on when you cover the display for at least 3 seconds upon receiving an alert (this is confirmed with haptic feedback / a tap on your wrist).

To turn this feature off:

- On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > Sounds & Haptics - if it is currently enabled, turn off Cover to Mute.
