Jul 30, 2015 6:06 AM in response to douglasfromsaint petersby lkrupp,★HelpfulAh, that’s a problem I can understand as I was experiencing the same thing. My solution was to launch the Watch app on my iPhone, select Messages, and notice that the default setting is “Mirror my iPhone.” I chose Custom where I had choices to show alerts, play a sound, and haptic (the wrist tap.) After switching to Custom I now get those alerts. I have read other posts about this issue. The “Mirror my iPhone” should work and should provide the same alerts as whatever your iPhone is set to do but some report it doesn’t work. Some have said restarting their watch made it work, some not.

Apple WatchYou will only receive notifications on Apple Watch when your iPhone is locked or asleep, otherwise they will be shown on your iPhone instead.
You won't receive notifications on your watch if it is locked (blue padlock symbol on your watch face) or you have enabled Do Not Disturb.
The Custom setting can also be especially useful for limiting email notifications to VIPs.
