Media Not Playing

I have a late 2012 IMac with Yosemite and I am experiencing intermittent issues with playing media. YouTube videos and any kinda of media online, Itunes, sometimes even local video files in quicktime won't play. A restart will fix the issue, but sometimes within minutes, sometimes a few weeks will go by, but the issue always reappears.
