Macbook Pro Copy and Paste Function Bug

Copying text from Word Document to Email or from PDF to Word Document or email does not work. Old content that I copied from weeks ago keeps pasting (a DOI I needed for a citation). I have copied other things since then, some have pasted successfully but 90% of the time it is old material. When I open my clipboard it has the DOI code copied ages ago, not my most recent "copy." Not sure what to do. Need to be able to copy large amounts of text and computer is only 3 weeks old.
