Bose Mini 2 Soundlink keeps disconnecting

My Bluetooth Bose mini Soundlink 2 keeps disconnecting whenever I switch from iTunes to You Tube. Why? Only way I can get the thing to work is by disconnectiong before switching from iTunes to You Tube, then reconnectiong. I am running OS10.6.8 with Safari 5.1. Also Bluetooth logo in top right of desktop is greyed out, suggesting some sort of issue. Why? Do I need browser upgrade? If so, how do I upgrade Safari without the problems of a new OS? Thanks
