Hallo Everyone
A friend sent me a homemade film of his dog (about 3 minutes long) which I got a techi friend to burn on a DVD.
How can I upload this home DVD to iTunes so I can share it with others from my iPhone or IPad ?

You’re probably better off using a tool such as MPEG Streamclip to convert the original movie file to MPEG-4 instead of ripping the DVD.

Thank you, but how do I do that Niel ? I am not very IT literate. If it isn't immediately obvious or with 48 point font in easy layman's language then I won't grasp it.
Download it, open the original movie with it, and then choose the desired option from the File menu.

Alas NIel, the system won't allow me to open and upload the file because its says my ssytem will not allow non Mac uploads. MPEG streamclip says it is an unidentified developer. I turned off the Firewall and tried to upload it again but the same error message came back. Should I turn off Firewall and reboot ?
Then once it is on, turn back Firewall again ? please advise. Thank you very much
Control-click it and choose Open. Alternatively, open the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, click on the General tab, unlock the pane, and set it to allow applications from anywhere.

i've just paid £29.99 and downloaded i now as QuickTime. Player 7 Pro which was required by MPEG stream clip and I followed all the instructions.
What do I do now with the exising movie file to open it and turn it into a file that can be used on my Iphone and iPad ?

If you’ve converted it to MPEG-4, drag the converted file to the open iTunes application window or the Automatically Add to iTunes folder.
If not, open and convert it as I posted above.

The download was for mpeg2. how to I convert it to MPEG 4 please ?
WHen I drag the movie file onto to five blue blobs in the www.squared5.com window, nothing happens, so I imagine I am not yet finished with the converting software.

Haven't I bought that already surely for £29.99 which became QuickPlayer Pro 7 ????
OK, so I now I have just another £14.99 for the QuickTime MPEG 2 playback component for Mac OS X which says it cannot be installed on this disk ( my hard drove) as this software is intended for an earlier version of Mac OS X.

This was completely wrong advice Niel. It cost me £14.99 for the Apple MPEG 2 converter and once downloaded was unsuitable for my hard disk as this software was designed for an earlier Mac OS X. And I cannot get a refund.! Were you having fun with me ?
