If I have purchased an app and wish to gift it, do we both keep the app?

I Want to give my friend a paid-for app I have already purchased. She doesn't have enough money on her account to buy it so I thought I'd try to gift it her, but I'm scared I might lose the app if I gift it to her. Please help
