Since yesterday, the Facetime icon on my iPad2 has a circled "5" over it. There have been no missed calls and I have emptied the directory of past calls. And yet this irritating digit still displays.
Why does it display and how to I remover it? I have hit reset and all that.

Try a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, about 10-40 seconds, then release both buttons and let it restart.
See if that wakes it up to what FaceTime is saying.
Sadly, the digit still displays. And it is not an App which can be uninstalled and reinstalled.
it is an irritant but one I don't need. The iPad 2 is creaking enough, as it is. Sigh!
You might also try going to Settings > FaceTime and turn FaceTime OFF, reboot, then turn FaceTime back on.
This worked, initially. However, when I hit Face Time to check, the damned "5" reappeared.
