How do I sort into album recorded order? This is especially important with soundtracks or albums such as Sgt. Pepper.

I ensure correct chronological sorting of albums by setting the Sort Album value to <artist name> yyyymmddd where the 2nd component is the release date. Then sort albums by Artist and Title.
I guess I don't know how to set the "sort album value "
Right-click > Get Info, select Sorting tab:
