Someone else's email address appears as the Apple ID when I try to update GarageBand. I'm not able to change the email address to my own.

You need to delete and redownload GarageBand while signed into your Apple ID.

Deleted GarageBand while I was signed in (by dragging it from Applications to Trash). Updates still show that the application needs to be updated. The app was gone, but for some reason it doesn't show as a new app to download and install.
Did you ever buy GarageBand using your AppleID? Sign into the AppStore with the AppleID you used to buy GarageBAnd or to accept a preinstalled version to your AppleID: If no version is associated with your AppleID, then you need to purchase it in your name.
With version of GarageBand did you have installed? And which version are you trying to update to?
I downloaded a 3rd party app (CleanMyMac3) and removed it that way. This has solved the problem. GarageBand was pre installed when I bought my Mac. I've never used GarageBand so I'm good to just leave it uninstalled.

Are you using iPhoto? Don't let CleanMyMac clean your photo libraries. It will downgrade the quality of your photos by replacing the originals with the edited versions.
Thank you. I just used it to remove GarageBand and its associated files. Hopefully that didn't affect iPhoto photos.
CleanMyMac is a scam product and should be uninstalled immediately. It may not have removed the files correctly anyway.
