My app versions is different from a person with a same app

I have a iPhone 5S and so does one of my friends.We both have 32 GB models. We both have similar apps including Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, etc. But when I look on her phone her similar apps look different on her phone than on my phone. For example on her Twitter search bar photos of trending topics pop up. But on my Twitter I only see the hashtags. I've noticed that another one of mt friends also has a more updated version of the same apps even though they have a iPhone 5S. So I decided to come here to see if anyone else has had this problem. All of my apps are updated. I have tried resetting my device, reinstalling apps. I also erased and reset the entire device and created a new Apple ID. When doing this the same thing has occurred. What should I do to get the most updated apps.
