Play button not working on iPad Air 2

i just got this iPad Air 2 and when I try to play a video in the background using the play button on the control panel at the bottom, nothing happens. It doesn't control the YouTube. It appears to try to but nothing happens. Does someone have any solution please as this is quite frustrating.

To my knowledge, Youtube is an ad supported service so it will not allow audio to play in the "background" due to you not being able to see the ads.

The Youtube app is simply not designed to play in the background.

You need to be n the App for it to play.

Whether this has anything to do with the adds, is unknown.
