Q: How do I find the size of an OS X update before downloading it?

when I have updates available to my Mac mini 2015, I can't seem to find any info on the size of download Required for the update. I keep a close eye on my monthly usage, so this is important to me.

THanks.

Mac mini, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

Search for the update on the Apple Support site. There is no information in the App Store updates. Not all updates are available as standalone downloads, though.

Once notified by the App Store that there are OS updates available it is a good idea to go to the Apple Support Pages to download the updates,

not only will you get details of the size but the downloads are faster and the connection is more secure and shouldn't randomly disconnect as

the App Store sometimes does. you need to go to apples main page click Support go to the bottom of the page where you will see four columns

under number three click downloads and updates, and there you will be presented with the most recent updates, further pages will reveal older updates, and clicking Browse By Product, will get you even further. Please note that not all updates can be found here, such as recent Safari updates, which is a pain.

But it is very handy for large OS updates, as you can download once and use on other macs instead of having to use the App Store everytime for various

    machines.
