want to capture video on macBkPro - what input and what programs

Mac Bk Pro, Yosemite. Can I input video - what ports are useable for input? Best capture programs?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch,Early 2015), OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

The input sources, which you have not identified, will determine the connections and the software required.

To date, my video recording has been limited to recording TV shows. I have used Elgato hardware and software and have found it satisfactory.

I do have a camera that is capable of both still and movie photography. I have used it principally for stills and only dabbled with video looking at playback only on the camera. I have not downloaded any video to the MBP so I cannot offer any guidance there.
