Copied new photos to an albums, start iPhone sync, new photos where never copied to my phone...what's up????

Since iPhoto has been replaced and now iCloud is being forced on us, I am very disappointed with the sync of iTunes. While I have albums selected to be sync with my phone, after putting new photos into these albums on my mac they never get copied to my iPhone...nice...anyone know what is going on?? I don't need or want iCloud sharing of my photos. Was this feature taken away?
