How can I get my iPad to recognize my Canon wireless printer

I like to know why my iPad will not recognize my canon pixma wireless all in one printer?

iPad, iOS 7.1

The printer has to be AirPrint enabled for an iOS device to print to it. Contact Canon to see if there is an update for the printer to enable AirPrint to function.
